I’m a well-rounded computer geek. I currently work with computer systems, but I’ve studied widely – from foreign policy to Plato’s Speech of Aristophanes. My first degree is a BSc, major in Psychology; my second, a BCS (Bachelor of Computer Science). Both were earned at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
I started at Google as a Systems Engineer in the Site Reliability Engineering team. SREs are responsible for ensuring that our services are reliable and fast. Always. We make you think, incorrectly, that computers work. SRE is about building systems that work, even when their parts don’t.
I’ve helped support products like Google+, Cloud Run, and Cloud IAM – all with high reliability requirements. I’ve also worked on internal infrastructure to advance the state of the art for first-party microservices by creating a production platform now in broad use across the company.
